Dublin man found dead inside his neighbor's apartment. 43-year-old man now faces murder charges

The GBI says the two men were neighbors and acquaintances.

DUBLIN, Ga. — An arrest has been made in the death of a Dublin man, according to a release from the GBI.

43-year-old Kenneth Jurell Kates was arrested and charged on Monday with murder in the shooting death of Tyronda Bashun Hall.

Hall was shot and killed on Nov. 13 just before 10:30 a.m. at an apartment on Kingsby Street in Dublin. Hall was found inside Kates’ apartment by officers from the Dublin Police Department.

Kates and Hall were neighbors and acquaintances. The release does not say what led up to the shooting.

But an incident report from the Dublin Police Report reveals new details about Kates side of the story.

Kates said that he had just rented an apartment in the complex and was in the process of moving in. He said that he dropped off furniture and left the apartment around 11:30 p.m., the incident report said.

Then, Kates said he came back later the next day at around 10:20 a.m. when he noticed the front door was unlocked and opened. When he entered the apartment complex, he said he saw Hall lying on the floor in a puddle of blood. He said he called 911 and waited until police arrived at the scene.

But now, Kates is in jail and the case will be prosecuted by the Dublin District Attorney’s Office.
