3 teens arrested, charged in 'Operation Hamburglar' investigation of restaurant armed robberies

Three 16-year-olds were arrested in an investigation of a string of armed robberies at seven different fast food restaurants and one pharmacy.

MACON, Ga. — Bibb deputies have arrested three juveniles in an investigation of a string of armed robberies at seven different fast food restaurants and one pharmacy.

According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, "Operation Hamburglar" was an investigation of the robberies which were committed from January 2022 through May 2022.

On May 30, investigators arrested a 16-year-old in connection with the attempted armed robbery of the American Faves and More restaurant that happened on May 30. During the investigation, the sheriff's office connected the teen's involvement with other armed robberies, including the April 16 robbery at the Gray Highway Krystal. The teen was charged in connection with several commercial armed robberies that happened on Gray Highway, Riverside Drive, and Pio Nono Avenue over the course of five months at the beginning of 2022. 

The robberies investigated are:

  • January 28, 2022 - Captain D’s   
  • February 6,  2022 - Wendy’s
  • Personal and Commercial Armed Robbery that occurred on April 18, 2022 at the  McDonald’s
  • April 22, 2022 - Dairy Queen
  • May 3, 2022 robbery of the CVS Pharmacy

The release says the 16-year-old was shot in the leg during the robbery at American Faves and More. He was taken to the hospital and was listed in stable condition. After he was released, the teen was arrested and taken to the Bibb County youth detention center and was charged with (9 counts) of armed robbery, (10 counts) of Aggravated Assault, (10 counts) of False Imprisonment, and (7 counts) of kidnapping.

While investigating the April 17 Krystal armed robbery, investigators also identified two other 16-year-old boys that were involved. On Wednesday, November 9, the sheriff’s office arrested and  charged them  with (1 count) of armed robbery, (2 counts) of Aggravated Assault, ( 2 counts) of False Imprisonment, and (1 count) of kidnapping. They are currently in custody at the Youth Detention Center. 

This case is still under investigation with more charges and arrests are pending.
