Who killed Jaxon Bilbrey? | Family and friends seek justice one week after he died in Macon hit-and-run

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says Bilbrey was found around 2:30 a.m. on Emery Highway near Lexington Street

MACON, Ga. — According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, Jaxon Bilbrey was found dead on Emery Highway near Lexington Street last Sunday around 2:30 a.m.

For his mom Billie Bilbrey, that street will always be the location of her biggest nightmare.

"I've driven it, two dozen times now. And it looks like he walked up second street bridge. And was right there in that little curve," she said.

She said the rest is still unclear, because nobody from the Bibb County's Sheriff's Office reached out to talk to her about what happened.

The day her son died, she said he was leaving Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails in downtown Macon for a karaoke night.

"It usually is over around two, and he walks home cause that's what he likes to do. He loves to walk" Bilbrey said.

With no arrest so far, she's holding onto the memories she has of her son, and holding onto hope that someone might come forward who knows what happened.

On top of that, she still doesn't know if her son died on impact, or if he died later that morning.

"Just had one little cut on his eye. But you could tell at the back of his head was blood. And I just pray that it was instant," Bilbrey said.

She doesn't want her son to be remembered that way. Even if you didn't know Jaxon Bilbrey personally, she wants you to remember this.

"He came home barefooted one night, and I, I was awake and I said son where are your shoes? He said, this guy didn't have any. He, said it was kind of cold. He said, he didn't have any mom. And he said I knew I had some more," Bilbrey said.

His loss has also been a shock to his friends, like Andrew Ellard. They met as coworkers, but Ellard said him and Bilbrey quickly became close as brothers.

"Very carefree guy. I mean he had no fear in his heart. You know, he was, was so kind. You know, he wasn't judgmental at all. You know, I mean he- he gave everyone the benefit of the doubt," Ellard said.

If you know what happened to Jaxon Bilbrey, call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68 CRIME. You can also call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
