'She was unforgettable' | Cotina Fuller's family hold balloon release to remember her legacy

Roughly 50 people turned out at Carolyn Crayton Park to remember the legacy of Cotina Fuller. The DA's Office says she was killed by her husband on Friday.

MACON, Ga. — Family and friends of Cotina Fuller — who was killed at a Macon gas station Friday —  gathered at Carolyn Crayton Park Wednesday to honor her with a balloon release.

The Macon District Attorney's Office says her husband, Wayne Fuller, killed Cotina and then later shot himself after a police chase in Henry County.

Jawaun Ross is Fuller's only son. He says he will forever hold on to his last moments with her.

“She came in and out of the house twice and everybody was saying that was her way of saying bye,” Ross said.

Fuller's daughter, Jayla Mitchell can agree.

"I never thought that would be the last time that I shared a meal with her or even just a conversation, you know, seeing her happy and seeing her smile that morning,” Mitchell said.

In a Monday press conference, District Attorney Anita Howard said Cotina filed a temporary protective order against her husband, Wayne in April but he violated it one month later.

As the family came out to honor their mother, grandmother and friend, they spoke about her kindness and how she was always a giving person.

"She loves to cook so she would go and cook and feed everyone that shows up. Just a loving person,” Mitchell said.

Jawaun Ross says his mom didn't deserve to die the way she did.

"She was going to be here until God got ready for her. I don't want anybody else to go through what we have to go through. Not just we, but her mother that I have to step up and care for,” Ross said.

Her daughter Mitchell says she never expected her mother to be taken so early.

"We don't know what they were going through or why they can't leave a person alone, or why a person will continue to know or tell you they will change and be a better person for you,” Mitchell said.
