'I give the whole deer' | Hunters and hunting processors giving to organizations to feed the hungry

Papa's Deer and Hog Processing have donated 400 pounds of deer meat to Georgia Hunters for the Hungry.

DEXTER, Ga. — Papa's Deer and Hog Processing are giving some of their customers’ deer meat to different organizations.

One of those organizations is Georgia Hunters for the Hungry.

At Papa's Deer and Hog Processing, venison meat is seen all around.

Matthew Lancaster and his wife Katie Lancaster are the owners of Papa’s Deer and Hog Processing. They say they have donated deer meat for a few years but starting this year they wanted to donate to an organization that had an actual need for certain meat.

“Each year we found out that we were getting more and more donated, and, we were giving it to local churches. But we realized that there was much more need instead of having to take that on ourselves,” Katie Lancaster says.

She says this led her and her husband Matthew Lancaster to partner with Hunters for the Hungry.

She says now their hunters can donate their deer and they will process the meat and send it to Hunters for the Hungry.

“There are so many in need, not only in our community but all over the state and world. And so we find that this is our way of trying to give back. Because one deer could feed a good amount of people,” she says.

She says they have already donated 400 pounds of deer meat this year alone. Matthew Lancaster says they plan to donate more.

Josh Carter is a hunter who has donated deer for years to the Lancasters.

“When I donate, I give the whole deer," Carter said. "You get 40 to 50 to 60 pounds of meat, depending on how big the deer is. So with that, you can feed one family. You could feed two families.”

Carter says helping people is how the world should work.

“It’s just a good feeling as a human being. Any time that we can help people out by giving, monetary gifts or by buying someone food on the street or by donating a deer.  I mean, like I said earlier, if we're not as human beings trying to help others out, the world and America wouldn't be what it is today,” he says.

Carter hopes to teach his children the importance of giving back just like Katie and Matthew Lancaster are doing in Dexter.

Georgia Hunters for the Hungry are still looking for people to donate deer meat, processors to partner with their organization and for donations. You can click here to find out more.
