ATLANTA (AP) - Clark Atlanta University officials say a trustee has made a donation in hopes of strengthening the school's fundraising efforts.
Officials say Delores P. Aldridge has donated $150,000 and her academic papers to the university.
Officials say Aldridge earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and psychology from Clark College in 1963 and a master's degree in social work from Atlanta University in 1966. Aldridge in 1971 became the first African-American woman to earn a Ph.D. in sociology from Purdue University.
Clark Atlanta officials say the school will name the auditorium in the Thomas W. Cole Center for Research in Science and Technology after Aldridge and her late husband, Kwame Essuon - an electrical engineer who helped develop train control for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority's rail system.
