Wendi Camp's passion for the French language started at the same place she teaches now, Dodge County High School.

"In 11th grade, with my French teacher, and I actually took her job when I came back. She called me and said, 'I'm leaving. Do you want it?' and so I went to college and studied French, then I studied a semester in France," she said.
Her journey to become a teacher wasn't always smooth sailing.
"When I was 14, I was in an accident that left me paralyzed on my right side, and we talk about it, it's obvious I wear a brace and I limp," Camp said.
"It just kind of opened some of our eyes like, 'Wow, she's been in this car wreck. This has happened to her. She's still a full-time teacher.' She's a great teacher, and it shows us that whatever happens you can push through," sophomore Kaylee Mullis said.
Camp came across Norwegian Cruise Line's contest that awarded a free cruise to 30 teachers.
After she entered, she asked for her students' help, and it was all hands on deck.
"The students kept saying I needed to include something about my car accident because they said that helps me teach the way I teach, and I didn't include it at first, but they said I wasn't going to win if I didn't," Camp said.
"I was sharing it, put it on Snapchat, went in different classrooms, getting people phones to make sure Mrs. Camp wins," senior Europe Brown said.
"I went to the top 30 within three days of joining the competition and never left, and I ended up with over 1,800 votes," Camp said.
Out of 46,000 contestants, Camp won the top prize, inspiring more people than she ever thought she would.
"I'm not afraid to share my stories and how I grew up and how that's helped me become the person I am," Camp said.
Camp will enjoy a 7-day cruise with her husband.

They can choose anywhere Norwegian Cruise Line sails, but she says her top choice is Alaska.
