HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Quishawna and Antoan Henderson had their baby shower just one week before their baby was born.
"I had to have an emergency c-section because my blood pressure rose to dangerous levels, and to save Aubrey and me, they went ahead and performed that c-section just to keep both of us healthy," said Quishawna.
The early delivery left Aubrey in the NICU for three weeks. At just three pounds, eight ounces, she was too small to wear any of the clothes waiting at home for her.
The first Preemie Closet event was held on December 15th at Navicent Health in Macon and received more support than the Hendersons expected.
"Definitely had over $400 raised, and we were able to purchase over 100 outfits, and there were several families that came through. Once they all came through, they were able to get two to three outfits each," said Quishawna.
After their success, the family is now pushing towards another closet event with help from the Navicent Foundation.
"Everyone loved the idea of starting a preemie closet, just to give those gifts to families, and from there, we've had their full support, and they plan to give us a permanent spot in the new children's hospital," Quishawna said.
With the next planned closet event happening some time in March, the Preemie Closet will be taking donations for the next few months.
As of Monday morning, Aubrey weighed 14 pounds.
The Hendersons decided that instead of getting each other Christmas gifts, they will be donating their money to the Preemie Closet.
