COCHRAN, Ga. — The storage shed at a Bleckley County church caught fire after a tree nearby was struck by lightning on Friday.
Pastor Eddie Ingram says the fire completely destroyed everything inside of the storage shed at The Lighthouse of New Beginnings Holiness Church, including church robes, tables, chairs, and Children's toys. The fire also spread to the side of the church where the kitchen is located and blew out electrical sockets.
There was no damage to the church building besides the loss of power, and a hole in one of the walls.
Pastor Ingram says since the sockets burned out, an electrician has to come by and inspect it before the church is deemed safe for occupancy, so there will be no service at the church on Easter.
Instead Pastor Ingram is planning to host a service at his home.
"I’m a little upset that we can’t have it here, but we are still going to have service," he said. "We have services on Saturdays. We are going to take the service to our home, and we’re going to have it on the outside so we are going to have yard service. The enemy can’t stop it. The word still has to go forward."
The church is located on Bowers Cemetery Road.
