'I'm just fed up' | Macon salon owner speaks out after customers scammed by fake Facebook page

New clients were tricked when trying to make an appointment at A Hair Sensation in Macon. They were told to make a deposit for their appointment.

MACON, Ga. — A Macon salon owner said someone on Facebook has created a fake page for her salon and is using it to scam her customers and take their money.

Dawn Brose owns A Hair Sensation in Ingleside Village. She said the scammer is claiming to work at her salon, and takes people's money when they book an appointment with the fake account.

"I go I'm sorry but...no that person does not exist in this shop," Brose said.

Brose said the shop opened in September 2001 and they never ran into scam problems until last year.

"We had a lady parked out front where she sent money and she showed me the lady that was supposed to do her hair and I went she doesn't work here. I'm sorry you've been scammed," Brose said.

Last week, Brose said they came across a similar situation.

"Apparently they use the front of our salon and part of our webpage and it's on a Facebook page and a young lady or whoever has a picture of them saying that they're a hairdresser here and it's not true," Brose explained.

One woman booked a hair appointment through a Facebook page. She said she was required to send a deposit for the appointment.

Brose said other hair stylists could ask for a deposit before an appointment in case of cancellation, but they don't do that at A Hair Sensation.

"You come to us personally and we'll take care of you, but we don't ask for pre-paid payments," Brose said.

Brose said both victims lost around $75 to the scam. This time, she and the latest customer filed police reports. The victim even requested a refund through Cash App, but hasn't gotten that money back.

Brose said she's angry because the salon's reputation is on the line.

"I'm upset that somebody would do that and try to wreck our name and all because this salon been a salon for a long time," Brose said.

Brose wants the scammers to put their energy towards helping people rather than tearing them down.

"I'm just fed up with it just stop. You know if you can put this much time and effort in scamming people, you can do time and effort to do something good for people," Brose said.

If you want to set up an appointment at a hair sensation, Brose asks people to call into the salon or your hairdresser directly. She said people should not give a deposit for an appointment if they don't know who they're sending the money to.
