7-Eleven plans to open new location in South Bibb

Known for its convenience stores, Slurpee's and baked goods, the chain has plans for a location in Macon. Here's where

MACON, Ga. — A 7-Eleven could soon be coming to Macon.

The convenience store chain is eyeing property at 5250 Sardis Church Road in South Bibb.

The plan for a 5,400-square-foot fueling and convenience store combo from 7-Eleven comes after residents protested a much larger truck-stop plan a few years back, 13WMAZ media partner the Macon Newsroom reports.

That truck stop — which would have been created by Travel Centers of America — would have included an 11,156-square-foot truck maintenance center along with a 16,755-square-foot

During a Planning and Zoning meeting on Oct. 28, the scaled-back 24-hour 7-Eleven received no opposition.

While the company's name referenced that they were open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., the company has ditched that business practice, with most 7-Elevens are open 24/7.

Known for its convenience store shopping, its trademarked-Slurpee's and classic baked goods — such as its sweet apple fritters and donuts —  7-Eleven has a rather small footprint in Georgia.

If you haven't been to a  7-Eleven before, here's how they describe themselves on their website: "We strive to be the first choice for convenience for our customers – anytime, anywhere. To do that, we make our customers' day a little more awesome by delivering fast, personalized convenience – when, where, and how they want it."

They also have their own blends of coffee to start your day with.

The deal, however, has not been completely sealed.

According to the Macon Newsroom, a traffic study and negotiations with local stakeholders are still underway, but supporters of the project say the traffic will receive most of its traffic from the interstate.

Because of that, they expect none of the traffic to extend past the gas station and convenience store.
