Here are some last-minute resume tips for Amazon's job fair

Amazon is taking resumes and looking to hire 500 people at a job fair in Macon Tuesday

MACON, Ga. — The Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority, Macon-Bibb Work Source, and the Georgia Department of Labor are hosting a job fair with companies like FedEx, Tractor Supply, and Amazon on Tuesday.

They say some companies are looking to hire people for hundreds of warehouse jobs, including Amazon’s new distribution center in Macon-Bibb. They'll be looking to interview candidates and collect resumes for 500 jobs.

Chris Gilpin has put in countless hours to make sure his resume looks great and even picked out an outfit. He hopes Amazon will hire him.

"500 jobs, good paying jobs--that’s definitely something Macon could use and bring the money back in," said Gilpin.

Andrea Simmons with the Georgia Department of Labor says check your resume. Make sure you show off your skills, but don’t embellish the truth.

"If you have a background in warehouse and logistics, you want to focus on your key words and make sure they’re visible on your resume," said Simmons.

She says the best thing you can do is practice your presentation skills the night before an interview and then dress the part.

"You want the employer to focus on you. Make sure your dress is nice and neat," said Simmons.

"I’ll wear a long shirt to cover my tattoos," said Gilpin.

Gilphin says he’s been waiting five months for positions to open up at Amazon.

"A lot of it has just been saying I'm waiting for this opportunity so what do we have to do to make it happen," said Gilpin.

He hopes if he can get his foot in the door and show them he is a hard worker, he'll be able to move up in the company.

That job fair will be held at the Anderson Conference Center on Eisenhower Parkway on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Simmons says you need to bring your resume, driver's license, and dress business casual for your best chance at being hired.

The Georgia Department of Labor will have a table at the job fair if you want them to look over your resume and help calm your last-minute nerves.
