Meet the FROGGS: A Tennessee retiree group with a sense of adventure and a love for water skiing

Every year, to celebrate the Fourth of July, the FROGGS ask the question on everyone's mind: How many water skiers can get behind one boat?

TELLICO VILLAGE, Tenn. — In a retirement community in Tellico Village, FROGGS gathered. Only these weren't the amphibious kind.

FROGGS, which stands for Finally Retired Guys and Gals Skiing, is a water-skiing group of retirees from their mid-50s to early 80s. The thing they all have in common is their sense of adventure.

"Well, they call me the 'Father FROGG,' I wanted to have friends to ski with when we moved here," FROGGS founder Jim Riley said. "And everyone said, because of our age, we were too old to ski,"

There are currently 19 FROGGS. The oldest is 82.

Every year, to celebrate the Fourth of July, they ask the question on everyone's mind: How many water skiers can get behind one boat?

This year, eight FROGGS skied behind the boat.

"It makes you feel like a kid. And we get up and it makes you think, 'Is this a miracle? Am I really doing this?'," FROGGS member Mary Beth Price said.

The FROGGS plan to continue this annual tradition.
