Downtown Fort Valley prepares for 4th Peach Cobbler Drop

People in Peach County are gearing up for a drop of their own, but with a sweet twist.

FORT VALLEY, Ga. — For the last 39 years, Garrett Milton has watched downtown Fort Valley shift from his hair salon, Hidden Image.

"Fort Valley was different. It was a lot of storefronts, we had clothing stores. So things have changed in the last 40 years, I've seen change come about," Milton said.

Milton's shop is right on Church Street across from the iconic gazebo, and up the street from City Hall.

"When I first came to Fort Valley, I had major support from my clients. I'm a third generation hair stylist, so I brought some of the clients that my mom had with me. So, I had major support," he said.

He says without that support his salon wouldn't have lasted, and that's the same level of support he wants to give any new businesses or events.

"We got people coming in like DJ Whiz, Eighteen36. Latonia Ages is one of the upcoming directors downtown trying to do some of these new events," Milton said.

Latonia Ages with the Peach Activity Committee has planned the Cobbler Drop since it first began four years ago.

"We noticed surrounding counties around Fort Valley, everyone was having new year celebrations and we were like, 'Why not Fort Valley?'," she said.

So the idea was born to create a large Plexiglas peach cobbler to drop at midnight.

"In addition to that Plexiglas dropping, we'll have real peach cobbler," Ages said.

That peach cobbler is from Lane Southern Orchards, and it's free all night.

The festivities begin at 8 p.m., and the party continues into the night.
