DUBLIN, Ga. — Christmas miracles were still happening in Central Georgia, even a day after the holiday.
Brittney Silver's family loves going to Gatlinburg, Tennessee each year as a Christmas tradition. They were driving home when their car stopped working.
"Smoke just barreling out of the car. And my little girls are crying and upset because they don't know what's going on, and I'm stressing out," Silver said.
Silver, her husband, brother, two daughters, and a friend were all stranded on Highway 441.
For about 40 minutes, cars kept driving by. One man pulled over to see if he could hitch their car to his, but Silver said her car didn't have a hook for it.
Then, Kendrick Mack pulled over.
"We didn't know who it was and he just got out of his truck and he said 'hey, are you guys okay? Do y'all need help?'" Silver said.
Mack is a funeral director at Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Services. He was coming back from a service that evening when he saw the family struggling.
"A funeral director is a servant. A servant whether it's in the midst of a transition, or whether it is in the midst of a crisis," Mack said.
He immediately knew how to handle this crisis. He called a company that towed the family's car. And then he took the family back to his funeral home in Dublin.
"As soon as we walked in, he was like use the restroom, grab a drink, if you need snacks," Silver said.
And he didn't stop there. He also gave the family a set of keys.
"He said 'why don't y'all take our vehicle? We have an extra vehicle that we keep at the funeral home, and y'all can take it home,'" Silver said.
Mack said after giving the family a ride to his funeral home, he knew he could trust them to borrow his car.
"Go home for the night, just go home. Whatever you gotta do, however long it takes, just go home," Mack said.
Silver said she couldn't believe someone would do that for a complete stranger.
"He didn't ask any questions. I could've been just anybody and he did what he did for us, and I mean it was truly a Christmas miracle," she said.
Silver's family used the car to get home that night, and they returned it the next day.
She said Mack's inspired her to live more like him.
