COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A former Coweta County Jail inmate returned to the institution last week, not as an inmate, but as a Fulton County prosecutor.

The Coweta County Sheriff's Office posted about the prosecutor's journey on Facebook.

James White III has significantly improved his life since August 2005. He served time at the Coweta County Jail for armed robbery, aggravated assault, and burglary, the office said in its social media post.

But even behind bars, White took advantage of the collection of books inmates had access to. He enjoyed Danielle Steele, Nora Roberts and Jackie Collins, among others, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

After his time at the Coweta facility, White was transferred to prison to serve a split sentence of 10 years. He then got his GED while at the Lagrange Transitional Center before being released from Lowndes State Prison in 2007, the sheriff's office added.

White met Minister Hall, who helped him enroll at Benedict College in 2011. White initially aspired to be a teacher, but his status as a convicted felon prevented him from doing so.

However, White’s mentor, Col. Knowles, introduced him to attorney James King, who told White he could be an attorney. White then received his law degree from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and has since become a Fulton County Assistant Solicitor General, the sheriff's office stated.

During his visit back to the Coweta County Jail, White spoke with current inmates in each dorm and even visited his former cell.
