SHERIDAN, Ark. — One young entrepreneur in Arkansas has started his own business. Not only is he learning how to be a businessman at a young age— but he's also doing it for a good cause.
In Sheridan, 8-year-old Charlie Hobbs has started selling mammoth sunflowers through his business, Charlie’s Little Flower Shop.
The flowers that he sells can grow to be about ten feet tall, and Charlie has already sold enough of them in two weeks to raise $1,000.
Charlie explained that his love for flowers comes from his family.
"My mom started doing it, so I just started doing it,” Charlie described.
The business has been successful, however, the money isn't all for Charlie.
Much of it will go to CASA— an organization that helps foster kids find forever homes.
"Half of all my earnings go to Casa,” Charlie said.
Charlie’s mom, Taylor Dunn, who helps with the business, explained how her son has been passionate about helping CASA for a long time.
"Ultimately it was Charlie's decision,” Dunn said. “He wanted to help kids that were less fortunate at his age."
Kim Hackney with Tri-Lakes CASA explained how they appoint advocates to care for kids in foster care and they go with them to court appearances. She also said that hearing Charlie’s story made her happy.
"I'm just really thankful you know that a kiddo of his age is already thinking about helping other kiddos that aren't as fortunate as he is,” Hackney said. “I think it's a wonderful thing."
However, Charlie said that for him, it just makes sense to help out other children.
He gets to do what he loves and help people at the same time.
