HAWKINSVILLE, Ga. — Kimberly Snell said she's lived at Henry Way Apartments for about 8 years, and in one day, she's nearly lost everything because of someone else's mistake.
"The love seat right here, then you had a sofa in this area, end table right here. We had a recliner sitting over here where the rails to the bunk bed is at that they just left in the front room," Snell said as she described what her apartment was like before this incident.
Snell lives at the Henry Way Apartments in Hawkinsville, run by the city's housing authority.
Due to management's mistake, hired contractors cleaned out her house.
She says she pays her bills on time and knew this wasn't her fault.
"It feels like you working for nothing, we're left with nothing, we don't really have that many resources in Hawkinsville and don't have help, basically," Snell said.
The city's Housing Authority Manager Oscar Mason said they mixed up Snell's apartment with a tenant at their Mooney Apartment location who was behind on rent.
Both apartments have the same number, 19.
"I came home, had to contact them myself, they didn't really apologize. They just say they have the wrong apartment. That's communication, that's all messed up," Snell said.
Mason sent a statement saying they took the family shopping at Walmart and spent about $450 on clothes, and they're working on replacing all of their missing property.
Snell says she's mostly worried for her kids.
"They don't have nothing. Christmas stuff, gone. They barely have any clothes -- maybe two pairs of pants, maybe shirts, few underwear, socks. No jackets, no nothing to prepare for this cold weather," Snell said.
The contractors took Snell's belongings to the Houston County landfill where she said her and her kids were able to recover just a few clothing items.
