MACON, Ga. — Lanes Southern Orchard is one of many peach farms across Central Georgia.
Jenny Arrington, the bakery manager at Lanes Southern Orchards in Fort Valley, manages a lot, but, "peach cobbler is probably one of the biggest things we produce here."
She says 75 pans are made every day during the summer. It's all home-made, from scratch and using over 50 pounds of peaches.
It starts with freshly picked peaches. Milk, butter, sugar, baking powder and a high gluten flour is used for the batter. Sugar, peaches, lemon juice, corn starch and butter is used in the filling. Finally, they top it off with cinnamon and a gently mix.
Houston county resident Dee Cooper visits the orchard quite often.
"We really enjoy the peach cobbler. We enjoy the atmosphere. Everything is really tasty and I highly recommend it," Dee said.
It not only puts a smile on the customers face, but also the employees.
"It's exciting to get to make a product that people enjoy, that people travel miles to come get. A lot of the locals... ya know... they know that we've got it. They are here every day, every other day. It's just really exciting to make something we know people are going to enjoy," Jenny said.
