FORSYTH, Ga. — A new store and candy shop has opened in Forsyth, and what they're selling is pretty "sweet".
Swint's Candy Company has been around since 1925, but just recently opened their doors on a new location in Forsyth.
They're known for making sweets with pecans, and sell goodies like pralines, fudge, cookies, chocolate turtles, peanut butter cornflake bites, dipped Oreos, ice cream, and more. They also have "sweet dreams," a salted chocolate pecan bark. You can get it in white, milk, or dark chocolate, and after one bite - you'll be hooked.
"One of our best sellers is Sweet Dreams. Is is French fried pecans that are salted and rolled in white chocolate...if anybody has not tried Sweet Dreams, we really reccomend tou come in and give it a taste," said Eric Watson, President of Swint's.
If you want something to sip on while you shop, they also have coffee and milkshakes. Their frozen coffee (traditional coffee mixed with vanilla ice cream) is delicious, and the shakes include bits of the candies they make to give them more depth and flavor.
They also have a market on the other side of the store where you can buy local goods and gifts for your loved ones (or yourself!) So, if you have some last minute Christmas shopping to do - or just have a sweet tooth - you can swing by for some.
Watson says they would love to have you.
"Part of Swint's is that we are really big into family. We wanted to set up an area here in Forsyth so that any of your Christmas shopping needs, and shopping needs throughout the year, that there's really a gift for everybody in the family," he said.
Another big part of Swint's is it's history in Georgia, and Watson explained how the company got its start so many years ago.
"Swint's was started back in 1925 in Milner, Georgia. At the beginning of the Dixie highway when it began to take form around 1915, it went straight through the Swint family's property. The family had pecan trees, where they started making pecan candies and selling those by a roadside stand in 1925," he said.
He went on to say that since then, the formulas for their homemade goods has largely remained the same, and are a part of history themselves.
"We are still using a lot of those older recipes, so when people walk in these doors they can expect to see a lot of the original recipes and candies that were made many years ago," he continued.
Swint's is located at 107 Industrial Park Road in Forsyth. They are open Tuesday - Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. if you want to stop by and try some yummy treats for yourself!
