PERRY, Ga. — Prepare to go back in time with a visit to this downtown Perry diner.
Shchultze's Old Fashioned Soda Shop is a unique experience that rewinds the clock.
They offer classic diner food like burgers, fries, old-fashioned sodas, and most notably some mouthwatering milkshakes right out of the 1950's.
A jukebox plays tunes from Elvis to Little Richard while you eat, and the walls are lined with old pictures and coke memorabilia.
Shift lead Caitlin Goheen says the diner is special and she loves to help customers get a blast from the past.
"That is the highlight of my job honestly, like when we make out fun sundaes and the extreme sundaes and taking them out to the table and people are just like "ahhh oh my gosh!", that is just the highlight of coming in to work that day. The community, they really do support us very well," she said.
The locally owned restaurant is very popular among the Perry community. They offer not only diner food, but treats you cant get anywhere else.
All their sodas are made the old-fashioned way, and if you stop by the 'swamp water' soda is especially delicious (It tastes much better than it sounds, trust me.)
They also offer garbage plates, which are usually only available in northern states.
"The garbage basket is a pile of fries with a pile of macaroni salad, your choice of a patty or a hot dog, and then it's covered with our chili sauce and mustard. it is so good," said Goheen.
If you want to try the food for yourself, Shultze's is located at 757 Carroll Street in Perry. They are open Tuesday- Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday - Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
And as they said in the 50's, be there or be square!
