MACON, Ga. — Sweet treat lovers in South Bibb will have a new bakery in their neighborhood, but that bakery is a familiar face to many in Macon-Bibb County.
Felicia's Cake Factory is setting its sights beyond downtown, where they recently closed their previous location. On Saturday, they'll hold their "re-grand opening" for their new home at 5759 Houston Road in South Bibb.
"We had an opportunity to come to the South," CEO Felicia Howard said. "That opportunity arose to bring the bakery over here. I had to jump on it."
Howard is no stranger to baking, opening the downtown location seven years ago.
In a bright pink interior, Felicia's Cake Factory offers a wide array of baked goods for those with a sweet tooth.
She said that moving to South Bibb made sense because her kids go to the school there and there aren't many bakeries serving the community.
"So far, everyone is really happy about us being over here," Howard said. "There's not a whole lot going on in South Bibb County. To have an established bakery coming over here, the response has been great."
Before opening the bakery, Howard was a home baker, making cakes and items for her family. However, she took some of her baked goods to work one day and said "the rest is kind of history."
"People just kept contacting me about making products and cakes and stuff for their events that they had going on," Howard said.
The bakery is known for their cookies, brownies and, of course, their cakes for every occasion. Whether its birthday cakes, wedding cakes or cakes for any kind of event, Felicia's Cake Factory has had Macon-Bibb's dessert needs covered for years.
They also offer pies, banana puddings and are offering some deals for people looking to add Felicia's Cake Factory to their Thanksgiving dinner. Those orders are open until Nov. 20.
"You have a few more days to get those items in if you like," Howard said.
Felicia's Cake Factory is opening their new location on Saturday. They'll open their doors at 11 a.m. and will be open until 6 p.m. or until they sell out.
With the "re-grand opening" quickly approaching, Howard said she and her team are excited to call South Bibb their new home.
"We've been welcoming them in and we've been a part of this community," Howard said. "We participate in the activities that they have there at the school as well to try to give back to the community as much as we can."
