MACON, Ga. — The people have spoken: Cashman's Pub is the winner of Downtown Macon's French Fry Fight for 2024 and is now the rightful holder of the "Super Spud Trophy."
The decision was announced on the organizer NewTown Macon's Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon.
But it's not the first time Cashman's has held the honor. Their victory in 2024 comes two years after Cashman's Pub won the French Fry Fight for the first time during the inaugural French Fry Fight.
This time around, Cashman's was serving up the "Asian Sesame Fries," which included braised short ribs with Japanese barbeque sauce, scallions, sesame seeds and a side of yum yum sauce.
After voting wrapped up, Cashman's received the most votes, but the Rookery came in second and Hotel Forty-Five came in third.
Hotel Forty Five's "Sweet and Salty" fries featured skin sweet potatoes, marshmallow fluff, house caramel and lake salt Bleu, the Newtown Macon website says.
The Rookery served up their "Rook Burger Battered fries" which were battered fries topped with cheese burger ground beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, dill pickle chips and burger sauce.
The festivities, which help promote local restaurants through the creative fry creations, is organized by Newtown Macon.
Back in 2022, Cashmans was the winner of the first annual French Fry Fight with their Birria Fries. They were golden crispy fries topped with birria sauce with slow-cooked meat, melted cheese, onions and cilantro.
The restaurant and bar still serves their birria fries from time to time, but we'll have to see whether they will do the same with the "Asian Sesame Fries."
The Downtown Macon French Fry Fight challenges local restaurants to whip up their clever take on a classic: french fries. The competition, which takes place on National French Fry Day, then lets the people decide the winner of the Super Spud Trophy through a form available on Newtown Macon's website.
