Call it a jailbird: Peacock running afoul caught by Cherokee County deputy

The bird had been running into traffic near New Light Road, deputies said.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — After a neighborhood had been dealing with a peacock running afoul, deputies were able to capture the flightless bird.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said the bird had been running into traffic near New Light Road. Duty calls when there's a public safety concern.

Deputies quickly tried to apprehend the bird after it was causing chaos in the neighborhood. Some neighbors said the bird wanders out every once in a while and likes to strut his stuff - and he's not always quiet about it.

According to comments on Facebook, neighbors have many names for the bird - Mich, Kevin, Phil, Winston - but on Thursday, he was known as a menace.

The peacock, also a resident of the neighborhood, decided to hit the streets, prompting calls to coerce the bird to strut off elsewhere. According to deputies, "fowl" play is expected.

A deputy was able to corner the peacock and usher him elsewhere.

That peacock is now a jailbird.
