ATLANTA — The Atlanta Police Department announced the death of one of its mounted patrol horses, named Oreo, on Monday.
The beloved horse passed away on Tuesday at the age of 21.
Oreo served on APD's Mounted Patrol Unit for over a decade alongside his handler, Officer Ryan Dobler, and was known for his "vibrant personality and remarkable skills."
The department reflected on the former competition horse's impressive track record while on the force, including his assistance in apprehending three carjacking suspects and helping to catch a burglar.
"He will be deeply missed by his Mounted Patrol family," Atlanta Police said.
