'Almost' the whole town of Toomsboro is up for sale

One man owns 85 acres, including most of the downtown area, and many people are wondering what he plans to do with it.

A sign in Toomsboro, Georgia says 'almost' the whole town is for sale.

If you're driving through the downtown area, you'll see several buildings with numbers posted on the side.

People who live here say it's been like that for over 10 years.

Between 2002 and 2008, Tim Bumgardner says his father bought 37 parcels of land in the town with the idea of turning it into an entertainment destination, but those plans fell through.

Some of those properties include a hotel, opera house, cotton gin, train depot and several houses all together worth over half a million dollars.

Bumgardner says they're selling the properties as a whole for $1.7 million.

A few people who live in the area say since Bumgardner's father bought most of the properties and left them vacant, the town's economy has gone downhill.

Bumgardner says the three parties they're negotiating with show promise.

He hopes the economy in Toomsboro will get better soon.

Bumgardner wouldn't say how close they were to a deal, but that Georgia has  become a 'hot spot' and the contract offers are legitimate.
