PETA protest at Macon Chick-fil-A plays chicken shrieks as people eat. Here's why

The group had a sound system that blasted chicken sounds and had a subliminal message they hoped to convey.

MACON, Ga. — PETA showed up in Macon Friday hoping to ruffle some feathers as they parked in various chicken locations.

PETA stands for the ethical treatment of animals, and they stopped into the Macon Chick-fil-A on Tom Hill Sr. Boulevard during the lunch hour.

They called it "ad the guerilla tour" and the truck has a picture of chickens going off to slaughter.

They didn't find many birds of a feather, but the shrieking chicken noise and the truck did turn a few heads.

However, no one called fowl or even seemed to care about the subliminal message they hoped to convey: go vegan. But PETA says they gave away more than 50 Vegan Starter Kits and other vegan literature in Macon.

In the half-hour, they roosted at the restaurant on Tom Hill Senior Blvd. During that time, we never saw one person pick up a vegan recipe book.

However, their tour director, Marnie Chambless said off camera that getting the media to come out is one of their goals. The other is to convince folks that chicken isn't all that delectable.

“PETA's Hell on Wheels tour is meant to have people take a look at the very extreme reality that chickens go through every day compared to the five minutes we get pleasure from eating a chicken sandwich,” she explained.

The Hell on Wheels tour also camped out at Francar's, Fried Green Tomatoes and Sharks Fish and Chicken restaurants.
