Want to be an extra in Denzel Washington's movie? A Forsyth woman shares her experience being an extra

People in Central Georgia have the chance to appear in the upcoming Netflix film The Piano Lesson produced by Denzel Washington which will be filmed in Macon.

FORSYTH, Ga. — Netflix is coming to Macon in January, and you may be able to be in it!

The Piano Lesson is being produced by Denzel Washington and the company is looking for extras.

Theresa Daniel, a Forsyth native, is no stranger to a movie set. She's made more than 100 appearances in commercials, films and T.V. shows.

When she heard Netflix was coming to Macon, she immediately took interest. She did not hesitate to apply to be an extra in the flick.

In fact, Daniel says she's been acting as an extra for over a decade now.

"They happened to be filming 42, and it was in the summer so I said, 'Let's do that.' And my daughter and I did that. And I said 'This is fun,'" Daniel said.

After that, Daniel became invested in finding more opportunities to be an extra. She's even been tracking all her appearances since 2013.

"It was fun. Was like, I've got 100, and I was like wow," Daniel said. "And then I just kept on going."

Daniel finds her gigs on Facebook. Georgia Film Industry also has a list of extras casting companies on its website.

Most productions also do their recruiting through social media.

For those who are looking to become actors, Daniel shares some of her best advice for those wanting to get into the movie scene.

"It's not fast-paced, and it's a lot of work, and it's not all glamorous but it's very interesting [to see] how it's produced and made," Daniel said. "So it's a lot of fun."

Daniel also says people will need to be able to take direction and be patient. Overall, she says it's a cool conversation starter that can get addicting.

"Okay, I can check it off my bucket list and I was like 'Ooh there's another one' and I was ooh I can check that off my bucket list. Oh, there's another one. It would be fun," Daniel said. "If you haven't done one and you live in Macon, it's a good opportunity."

The production will pay a daily rate of $154, and extras may be working overnight so must make childcare arrangements, if necessary.

Anyone interested in working on this film or future productions should create a profile online at castbmc.app/talent.

Because of the costume requirements, those cast in the film may need to provide their own transportation to Atlanta for a fitting, but will be paid for their time. The fittings are tentatively scheduled for Dec. 18-20.

Paid extras are needed for local filming expected Jan. 5, 7 or 8 in Macon.
