MACON, Ga. — It became a big hit at Macon's The Grand Opera House during the pandemic.
Now, the Broadway Does series is back --- this time with songs from some of your favorite movies in a cabaret made to showcase local talent.
Pre-pandemic the Grand featured many acts from different states but COVID-19 moved touring shows to a halt.
But soon, the team at the Grand came up with a solution
“When the Grand couldn't bring Broadway shows to Macon we decided to bring our friends and neighbors and elevate them to our Broadway stage," Director of Arts Marketing and Community Engagement for Mercer Julia Rubens said.
Showing Central Georgia artists can make it to the Grand too.
“This is a chance to give our local performers that chance to have that Broadway voice on a Broadway style stage,” Executive Director Frank Wood said.
A variety of singers will hit the stage for the show coming up on October 28.
“By brining our local singers to our stage and having local performers here more often and have the Grand present them -- what we are trying to do is show that the Grand is a place for them," Rubens said. "Some of them are as young as being in high school and some of them are really old veterans they have done this often,"
While the stars on stage may not be everyday names yet, you'll quickly identify the hits you hear.
“What you are going to hear on stage are some of your favorite songs from some of the best known movies," Rubens said.
Local talent getting a time to shine under the spotlight.
"It's a wonderful way of bringing this community together to what happens on the Broadway world," Wood said.
Some of the other shows featured in the Broadway does series include Broadway does pride, Broadway does country and Broadway does punk.
