'Macon might as well be a second home': CeeLo Green talks 'O'tis the Season' benefit concert

"I was birthed by the likes of Otis Redding, James Brown, and Little Richard. I consider them all to be male figures and role models," Green told 13WMAZ.

MACON, Ga. — If you remember downtown Macon in the late 90s, you may have seen the 4 member band Goodie Mob. CeeLo Green, a vital group member, recalled the Atlanta-based band traveling down I-75 multiple times to perform in downtown Macon.

"That initial rapport is what makes my affinity for Macon as such," says Green.

Green is no stranger to the rich, soulful legends from Macon.

"I was birthed by the likes of Otis Redding, James Brown, and Little Richard. I consider them all to be male figures and role models," explained Green.

Green will be a special guest at the foundation's annual O'tis the Season Holiday Benefit concert and fundraiser. He appreciates Redding's impact, especially since Redding's artistry wasn't mixed with the mechanics used to enhance artists' voices today.

"There's something so authoritative about King Otis' voice," says Green.

Green can't wait to be back in Central Georgia to attend the benefit concert and see Redding's legacy live on.

"Macon might as well be a second home to me because of what the artists of that time were able to express is now airborne. I only ingested that influence," says Green.

It all happens on December 9th at Capitol Theater in downtown Macon.
