MACON, Ga. — Owen Warden is a Digital Content Producer at 13WMAZ. He joined the team in May 2024.
He started working at WMAZ after graduating Cum Laude from the Grady College of Journalism at the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a certificate in Sports Media.
In the summer following his sophomore year of college, he joined The Red & Black, an independent, student run newspaper. He joined the sports desk as a writer and, after only a semester, joined the desk as an editor.
During his two years there, the sports desk was recognized by the Georgia Collegiate Press Association as the best running sports desk at a college paper in the state of Georgia.
In this role, he covered and edited stories for nearly 20 different sports, working extensively on football, baseball and soccer. He traveled to cities like Nashvillle, Jacksonville and Miami to cover the football team at either games or SEC Media Days.
During this time, he appeared on the Paul Finebaum show three different times and was a guest on several other shows, including BetQL’s “The Bettor Angle.” He also hosted, produced and edited his own podcast, “Behind Enemy Bylines,” where he spoke to fellow student journalists from rival schools that Georgia football was facing that week.
Owen’s experiences developed a love for news writing and reporting. His internship work with the Oglethorpe Echo and the Oconee Enterprise, local newspapers based in Oglethorpe and Oconee County, respectively, helped him find a love for local journalism.
Owen is originally from Wake Forest, North Carolina, but has resided in Bonaire, Georgia for about nine years, and is an alum of Veterans High School.
In his free time, he loves baking and cooking or simply sitting back and watching any sport that’s on.
