Lars Lonnroth is an award-winning journalist and digital content producer. Before arriving at 13WMAZ, he was only a stone's throw away at Mercer University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in journalism and political science.

Growing up just outside Chicago, Lars learned the power of good, community-focused journalism.

While at 13WMAZ, Lars has focused on covering the courts and crime, helping people understand the impacts of the U.S. legal system. He’s covered stories ranging from the escape of four inmates from the Bibb County jail, a federal lawsuit against the Houston County Sheriff’s Office to the Georgia Department of Correction being held in contempt of court by a federal judge in Macon.

Before joining 13WMAZ, Lars worked with Georgia Public Broadcasting and WFAE, a public radio station in North Carolina. There, he reported stories on local politics along with contributing coverage on the North Carolina and South Carolina legislatures. At GPB, he covered anything from education to the descent of cryptocurrency mines in rural communities in Georgia and nationwide.

As a student journalist, Lars also received over 50 awards for his journalism, including winning 1st, 3rd and 5th in the nation for podcasting at the National Scholastic Press Association’s annual conference.

When not at work, Lars loves to visit local businesses or eateries, enjoy a nice hike, attend live concerts and generally engage with all that Macon and Central Georgia has to offer.

He is excited to help tell the story of Central Georgia with you, the audience member, at the front of his mind – and straight from the heart.

Lars is always on the prowl for the next great story. You can email him at llonnroth@13WMAZ.com. You can also connect with Lars on X, formerly Twitter, here.
