MACON, Ga. — JB James is a Digital Content Producer at 13WMAZ and joined the team in June 2024. Before that, he attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a degree in journalism and a certificate in sports media.
Born and raised in Macon, JB found his passion for journalism as a freshman in high school, when he began livestreaming Mary Persons football games.
JB’s next stop in the field came at The Red & Black, an independent student newspaper in Athens, Georgia. He served multiple roles at the organization, including football beat reporter, sports editor and podcast editor. During his time as sports editor, he flew out to Los Angeles to cover Georgia’s 63-7 victory over TCU in the 2023 national championship.
Before graduating, JB stopped at several other media outlets. He’s written for The Marietta Daily Journal, The Oconee Enterprise and The Oglethorpe Echo, covering a range of stories from high school sports to agriculture trends. He’s interviewed figures such Ronald Acuña Jr., community leaders, and even chicken farmers.
As a member of these publications, JB helped create award-winning works such as the Marietta Daily Journal’s ‘2023 Cobb County High School Football Kickoff Magazine,’ and served as co-editor in the production of ‘UNDEFEATED,’ a Red & Black book made to chronicle Georgia football’s 2022-23 championship season.
When he’s not working, JB can be found at a local restaurant, at the movie theater or on his couch with sports on the TV.
