CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A licensed nurse is behind bars for allegedly stealing the very drugs meant for his patients.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a Woodstock Police officer pulled over Alan Kenney on Highway 92 on April 25 for a an expired registration. During the traffic stop, the officer quickly realized there were several "suspicious" containers with prescription medications inside.
Officials discovered Kenney was employed as a licensed nurse at the Benton House assisted living facility in Woodstock, and agents determined that some of the drugs Kenney had – including some meant to treat high blood pressure, cholesterol, dementia and Parkinson's disease – should have been given to patients at the assisted living facility.
Agents also found fentanyl patches and other opioids hidden inside the car.
Authorities arrested Kenney and charged with several counts of Possession of Schedule II and Schedule IV drugs. He could also face additional charges related to the denial of life sustaining medications to persons over 65 years of age.
The investigation is still on-going.
