Warner Robins Police Department dedicates armband to POW/MIA

An armband and Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flag are placed in front of the Warner Robins Law Enforcement Center as a dedication.

The Warner Robins Police Department did something special to remember Prisoners of War and veterans Missing in Action.

Unity is something the Warner Robins Police Department showed people during a dedication to POW/MIA. James Sehorn says he's grateful to be back home after five years as a POW.

"No, they may never come home, but, yes, they are not forgotten," said Sehorn.

The Warner Robins Police Department says about 82,000 American veterans are still missing.

Buster Hickam with the Georgia-3 chapter of Rolling Thunder says it's emotional to hear their stories.

"When you hear the story of an individual who survived, that lived through it for five years, it will just shatter your heart," said Hickam.

Now, a permanent armband wraps around a flagpole in front of the Law Enforcement Center, and it doesn't stop there. Officers also placed Prisoner of War and Missing in Action decals on the patrol cars.

"When someone gets deployed, their family members are left here by themselves. We want them to see that flag and say, 'Hey, somebody is thinking about me today,'" said Hickam.

Hickam says he hopes this shows POWs who return home one thing.

"They are welcome in our community and they are certainly not forgotten," said Hickam.

The armband in front of the law enforcement center says, "Until they all come home."

There will be a recognition service at the Central Georgia Technical College for Prisoners of War and soldiers Missing in Action Thursday at 3 p.m.
