Warner Robins needs summer lifeguards for newly-renovated pool

The Warner Robins Recreation Department is looking for summer lifeguards.

The Department needs those lifeguards to work at Warner Robins’ newly-renovated Fountain Park pool.

When swimmers take a step into the pool this summer it will have a new look. The city is spending $50,000 from 2012 SPLOST funds to renovate the pool and surrounding buildings.

But, Recreation Director Jarred Reneau says they need lifeguards.

“Right now we're paying 10 dollars and fifty cents an hour for that, currently we only have 4, we're trying to get to 10 so we can be fully staffed, which will allow us to keep the pool open more days and be fully staffed and keep the citizens safe,” Reneau said at the pool.

Crews worked through the rain on Tuesday to sand down the building's floors and get them ready to be resurfaced. The interior of the building has already been repainted.

They'll also be re-staining the concrete around the pool and redoing the pool's ledges.

Fountain Park's facility will be the only pool open this summer.

Reneau says he's even going through lifeguard certification himself so he can help out this summer.

“It's been exciting; I'll tell you what it's opened my eyes to actually what is involved in being a lifeguard. I think a lot of people think you just jump in the pool and swim, but there's just so much for safety and preventive safety first off, and just to be in shape,” Reneau said poolside.

He said he’s also been swimming laps to make sure he’s in shape.

Reneau is hopeful the pool will be open Tuesdays and Thursday-Sunday of each week this summer from 1 to 6 in the afternoon.

The pool is expected to be open for Memorial Day on Monday.

Fountain Park is located at 614 Kimberly Road in Warner Robins.
