Curtis Dewayne Jackson, 25, and Addonis Xavier Rhodes, 19, were involved in that confrontation and were convicted of malice murder, two counts of felony murder and one count of violating Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

Jackson was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

Rhodes was also sentenced to life, but is eligible for release after 30 years because of his age at the time of the crime.

Evidence presented during the trial showed that Jackson went to the Mays' home to retrieve a gun hidden by a 'Crips' gang member.

Jackson, unaware the gun had already been retrieved, tried to speak with Mays' mother at the home about the gun.

Mays' mother refused to open the door, and Jackson became angry. Mays' mother called her son home, while Jackson returned with several other armed men.

Mays told Jackson he didn't know anything about the gun. Rhodes, along with the other men started shooting at Mays on Jackson's command.

Mays was fatally shot as he and his mother retreated inside the home, with his mother barricading them in a bedroom.

Three other men involved in the shooting -- Jadarien Shamar Flowers, 22, Drayson Walter McDonald, 19, and Michael Dewayne Hardy Jr., 22,-- pleaded guilty for their part. All testified in the trial.

Jackson, Rhodes and McDonald were affiliated with the 10-12 street gang.

Testimony stated the area Rhodes stood matched the location where a .40-caliber shell casing was found -- the same bullet an autopsy revealed inflicted the fatal wound.
