The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office still has not identified or arrested anyone in connection with the shooting death of 36-year-old Veronique Reaves.
She's the Baldwin County woman who was shot and killed while driving on Highway 212 near Milledgeville last month.
But Capt. Brad King says new evidence related to the gun used to kill her has opened up a new lead.
"This is still a very active investigation," says King.
On the evening of Oct. 19, Reaves called 911 and reported that a car was following her.
"All we know is there was a set of headlights and taillights," says King. "Six minutes after she called 911, a white truck came to a stop at the scene and drove away."
King says the driver of that white truck was tracked down, vetted, and cleared from the investigation.
According to King, Reaves did not give a description of the vehicle that was tailing her, but he's hopeful that surveillance video collected from surrounding businesses could identify other cars on Highway 212 around the time of the shooting.
"The forensics from the vehicle suggest, most likely, that the shot came from the passenger's side," says King.
According to King, there may have been more than one person in the car that was following Reaves.
And new evidence discovered by investigators on Monday related to the firearm used to kill Reaves may link her death to another Baldwin County crime.
"I will go as far as to tell you that it is in reference to a different crime, but we have a lead that we're exploring right now that might actually connect the two," says King.
King would not comment on what exactly that evidence was, or what crime scene it came from. He says releasing those details could hinder their investigation.
The Sheriff's Office has asked the FBI to help analyze the surveillance video they've collected from over 30 locations near the crime scene.
