Macon pastor combats crime out in the community with kindness

Pastor James Collins walks the street helping people spiritually and financially in order to combat crime in Macon.

With Macon at 32 homicides so far in 2018, a pastor takes his ministry to the streets for 30 days. This crusade revival is all about getting outside and showing neighbors there are people that care about you even if you don't know them. Pastor James Collins says faith is what brought him to preach here in Macon.

"We need to think about our city. I love Macon. Macon has been my home. I love Macon and I am concerned about the people in Macon. That's why God put in my spirit to do this," said Collins.

For 30 days, Collins is hosting a daily outdoor service in his west Macon neighborhood at 2865 Columbus Road. Before service, he's out on the streets inviting people to come listen to music or even just to grab something to drink to let them know he cares.

Pastor Collins said he's helped three people financially to get back on their feet. He walks places like Columbus Road or out in the Unionville area.

"That's why we are here, to just encourage our community. I love my city, don't you? Regardless of what they say is going on, we are going to make it better," said Collins.

Collins says a few people he met who were down and out now attend his service.

"Some looking for a place to live because they are walking the streets and are homeless. We let then know that our arms are open. Whatever God provides for us, we will provide for them," said Collins.

That last day of the revival is Sept. 29 at noon on Columbus Road. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, and a Christian movie showing outdoors.
