Central Georgia sounds off about school walkouts

Students walked out of school in remembrance of the Parkland, Florida shooting victims this week.

Thousands of students across the country walked out of school Tuesday as part of a nationwide protest against gun violence and memorial for the Parkland students who were killed in February.

Around 500 Jones County students and more than 500 students in Bibb County Schools participated in the national day of walkouts.

Students in Jones County had the option of participating in the walkout or staying home.

Students took that time to not only remember the 17 victims at Stoneman Douglas High School, but also to release 17 balloons in their memory.

Around 100 students at Howard High in Bibb County skipped class for 17 minutes to stand in solidarity with schools around the country for national walkout day.

The students made signs and gathered in the lobby to hold hands in silence.
