Active weather pattern for early next week

Spring is here! It means that we could see some strong or severe storms Sunday night into Monday morning and again Monday evening of next week.

Spring officially arrives on Tuesday, March 20 at 12:15 p.m. EDT.

With warmer weather expected this weekend, we might have to deal with spring thunderstorms as we head into Sunday night (3/18/18) and again Monday (3/19/18).

Scattered showers will be possible for the first half of Saturday. Rain chances are expected to diminish Saturday evening, but can't be ruled out on St. Patrick's Day.

Most of Sunday is shaping up to be mostly dry and very warm with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.

A warm front along the Gulf Coast will advance northwards into Central Georgia Sunday night into Monday morning. Rain and even a few thunderstorms are possible during this time frame.

Strong storms can't be ruled out, but there's uncertainty on the timing and strength of these storms. If stronger storms form, strong winds and heavy rain would be the main threat.

On Monday, a cold front will inch closer to Georgia.

The ingredients that support severe weather could develop across parts of the Southeast Monday afternoon and evening.

With enough daytime heating and a little spin in the atmosphere, strong to severe storms could be possible during this time frame. Damaging winds, hail, and even a few tornadoes can't be ruled out in this weather setup.

It is way too early to determine the exact details on the coverage, timing and intensity of these storms.

Much of how Monday shapes up will depend on how Sunday night/Monday morning plays out across the Peach state.

We just want to give you a heads up of the potential to see strong storms as we begin next week. Rain will be likely and we could see around one to two inches of rain through next Tuesday. We will turn cooler by the middle part of next week.
