63 pit bulls seized in suspected dog fighting ring in Dodge Co.

Investigators were tipped off about the ring when a GSP trooper pulled over a driver and found a pit bull covered in blood.

U.S. Marshals seized dozens of pit bulls from a Dodge County home that's part of a suspected dogfighting ring, according to documents filed in federal court in Dublin.

They say it happened after a GSP trooper stopped a vehicle March 17, and found a pit bull covered with blood inside.

They say the owner admitted attending dogfights that night.

Later, officers raided a home at 2083 Rozar Goolsby Road, outside Eastman.

The court documents say they found a dog-fighting pit, training equipment and dozens of dogs staked out with heavy chains. Most of the dogs did not have food or water, the document says,

Those dogs are being treated by veterinarians, and the federal government has gone to court to claim the 63 dogs because interstate dog fighting is a federal crime.

Christopher Gordon of the Oconee Drug Task Force says six people were arrested on various charges.

He says investigators also found three firearms, marijuana and cocaine.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, state Department of Natural Resources, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture also assisted in the raid, according to Gordon.

He says people who notice suspicious drug activity can contact them at 1-877-448-4685.
